Veteran’s Day is here, and our favorite Tustin orthodontist, veteran, Dr. Baum, will be getting many thank-you’s for his service from our team and our amazing patient families. Dr. Baum is very passionate about supporting our military service men and women, and retired veterans. Here at Baum Orthodontics, we participate in events that are near and dear to Dr. Baum. In 2005, one of Dr.Baum’s college roommates, Jeremy Wright, who was with 1st SFG (special forces), was killed in Afghanistan by a road-side bomb. In honor of Sgt. Wright, Dr. Baum wears a copper bracelet with his friend’s name engraved on it on a daily basis. This compels us to do these events in honor of those that have fought and are currently serving, and have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country. In the summer, we sold our patriotic July 4th Baum t-shirts to our patients and the local community. All of the profits went to the Semper Fi Fund. The Semper Fi Fund is a non-profit organization that provides immediate financial assistance and lifetime support to post 9/11 combat wounded, critically ill and catastrophically injured service members and their families. We raised $1,400.00 for the Semper Fi Fund, and hope to double this donation next year, thanks to our generous patients! For more information on the Semper Fi Fund, please visit www.semperfifund.org
Every October, we hold the Operation Halloween Candy Give Back in 14 of the local schools. Students donate their Halloween candy into our candy collection bins located outside of their school’s office during the week after Halloween. We also simultaneously hold a Halloween Candy Buy Back in both our Tustin and Irvine locations for our patients. Our patients bring in their Halloween candy, and receive $1 per lb up to 5 lbs, or they can cash that candy in for points on their Rewards Hub Card! Both parents and kids love this! It’s a win-win! Our Baum Orthodontics team then drive all the candy to Operation Gratitude in Chattsworth, CA. Each year we have delivered between 1-2 tons of candy! Operation Gratitude is a non-profit organization that sends care packages to our troops. The Halloween candy is used as one of the items placed in the packages, along with many other items, such as beany babies. Troops give them to local children where they are deployed to help befriend them. We also include letters to the troops from our patients and school children. For more information on items needed and ways you can help, please visit www.opertationgratitude.com
Supporting our veterans does not have to be limited to Veteran’s Day, as there are many ways to help 365 days a year. Thank you to all of our veterans, active and retired military.
